Missy Steger has been practicing massage therapy since 2002 and has continued with her education earning a Masters of Acupuncture at premiere school here in Laurel MD.  Missy has expanded her practice to not just working with muscular issues, but all realms of pain, allergies, asthma, skin conditions, anxiety, insomnia, GI upset, and the list goes on.  As an active suburban mom in Ellicott City, Missy understands the demands on each individual person in the household as we try to keep up with the demands of life.  “Acupuncture is a way to nourish and strengthen your body so that you can walk your path with a strong mind and resilient spirit.”

When Missy is not at the office, she is reading, weight lifting and attempting to navigate her kids' pre teen years.  She also works part time in conjunction with Johns Hopkins at the Claudia Mayer Tina Broccolino Cancer Resource Center.

Why Acupuncture?

Digestion

Managing what you think is best for your body versus how life shows up can leave us with all sorts of GI upsets; like bloating, nausea, reflux, gas, bowel issues, etc.  Acupuncture will aid in balancing out your gut so you can enjoy what nourishes your body and spirit most.

decrease bloating, reduce constipation and diarrhea, prevent acid reflux

Pain

Pain can permeate throughout the body.  Acupuncture addresses chronic pain as well as acute flare ups.  Simple injuries can be moved out via channel treatments, whereas more systemic pain is addressed from a multifaceted approach taking into account its origins and what else it is effecting.  This may be your gait, reduction in activities you love, or a deep frustration with limitations.

knee pain, joint pain, arthritis, running injury

Fatigue & Insomnia

Acupuncture takes the whole person into consideration.  During treatment we can discover what it is that is either keeping you up at night or causing you to be sleepy during the day.  We usually find that there is a connection between other symptoms you are suffering from, so that the root and the branch is being treated.

KI9 Guest House

This point strengthens the connection of Fire and Water, giving our heart and mind a place of stability and comfort.  It references the Heart as the Guest and the Water/Yin as the House.  Just as when you visit friends or family, here at Guest House Wellness, you are treated with special care, as an honored spirit, where your body and mind can find rest and/or rejuvenation.  This point and this space offers a guest room where you can wind down and let go, so that you may continue upon your path with a clear heart and enhanced resilience to life.

Weight Loss

You still have to do your part, AND acupuncture can support you as your body & mind makes those changes.  We can also get to the root of the habits that may be sabotaging your success.  Along with the needles, nutritional advice within the framework of Chinese Medicine will be given.

Stress

How your body handles stress is unique to you.  Acupuncture will address whatever that may be; pain, GI upset, insomnia, mindless eating, or emotional upset.  The medical paradigm of acupuncture includes working with the patient to address  how and why they cope with stress in a certain way, and to explore the possibility of reframing the stressor.  The body and spirit then grow to be more resilient to those stressors.
